Ningxia is an ancient region and humans settled around the place 3,000 years ago. Ningxia Prefecture was set up during the Qing Dynasty, and by the end of the eighteenth century, it was the largest and most populated area for the Muslim minorities in China. This picture came from the author of the original book, who stayed in western China and engaged in exploration and research for over 40 years, making many major discoveries there.
